Why considering yacht broker services from Skippern Yachts

In the following we will explain some of the reasons why you should hand over your boat sales to an experienced yacht broker - and why you should prefer to buy your next boat via a yacht broker like Skippern Yachts.

Extensive Advertising Reach

Skippern Yachts advertises on various platforms, including international market places for yachts, such as Yachtworld, Boats.com, Boat24, Scanboat and a number of local market platforms in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and central Europe.

Skippern Yachts is very visible in social media, such as Instagram and YouTube.

As a client, you benefit from this broad exposure without any upfront costs. Maximizing visibility ensures that your boat reaches potential buyers worldwide.

Professional Brokerage Services

Selling a boat involves more than just listing it online.

Skippern Yachts understands the nuances of the market. Let experienced brokers handle the sales process efficiently, qualifying potential buyers and saving you time by filtering out irrelevant inquiries.

Truls Bruland recommends using a yacht broker especially if you want to explore the international market for selling your boat.

Global Network

Skippern Yachts collaborates with like-minded brokers internationally. Their network extends to central Europe, Mediterranean regions, Great Britain, and the United States.

By leveraging this network, Skippern Yachts can connect buyers and sellers across borders, ensuring a seamless experience.

Secure Transactions

When it comes to financial matters, Skippern Yachts takes responsibility seriously. Skippern Yachts adhere to current regulations, including anti-money laundering protocols.

Payment for the boat remains in Skippern Yachts client account until the transaction is complete and both parties sign the transfer protocol.

Transparent Pricing

Skippern Yachts charges a reasonable commission for our services. This “no cure, no pay” approach means that the fee is incorporated into the final sale price. Honest discussions about pricing help bridge the gap between boat owners’ expectations and market realities.

Preparing Your Boat for Sale

As a boat owner, you’ll need to assess your vessel’s condition. Decide what improvements are necessary to enhance its appeal and return on investment (ROI).

High-quality photos are crucial. Consider hiring a professional photographer to capture your boat’s essence, similar to brochure images. Remove personal effects and tools to present a clean, inviting look. If the boat is in our neighborhood we will take care of photo and video session and will also suggest taking drone photos for a more thrilling presentation of your boat.

In summary, Skippern Yachts combines expertise, global reach, and a commitment to excellence. Whether you’re selling or buying, our team ensures a smooth process, allowing you to focus on enjoying the water.

How it Works

Here's an overview of how the process usually works, seen from the perspective of a boat owner that considers selling her/his boat:

Contact and initial meeting

  • We (broker) need details about your boat (model, year, condition, equipment etc.), ownership and registration. We also check if the boat is CE-classed, when this is mandatory. It may be necessary to visit the boat for a visual inspection. This meeting provides insight into the boat's sales value and the target group for the sale.

Valuation and pricing

  • Valuation: We will make a market assessment based on the boat's condition, age, equipment and market trends to find a realistic selling price. We will compare your boat with similar boats on the market and look at sales history for similar boats.
  • Pricing: Together with you, we will reach an agreement on a recommended price for which the boat is advertised and any minimum price for negotiation.

Marketing and advertising

  • Photography and advertisements: Visuals are important when selling a boat. Unless you as the owner have good photos of the boat, we will provide professional photos, if possible, also drone photos and film, as well as prepare advertisements with detailed descriptions. These are posted on various platforms, both nationally and internationally, depending on the type of boat.
  • Marketing: Skippern Yachts has its own websites and advertises on specialized marketplaces such as YachtWorld, Boats.com, Scanboat, Boat24, TheYachtMarket and local or regional platforms for boating enthusiasts, as well as on social media. In addition, we use our network of cooperating boat brokers to reach even more potential buyers.

Handling of interested buyers

  • Viewings and test drive: We will arrange viewings and, in cooperation with the owner, also take part in a test drive for potential buyers. We can also answer questions and provide information about the boat on your behalf.
  • Negotiation: We will be responsible for the negotiations between you and potential buyers.

Contract and papers

  • Contract writing: Once an agreement has been reached on price and conditions, we will establish a purchase contract that safeguards the interests of both parties.
  • Paperwork: We assist with the transfer of the boat if it is registered as a ship, and to assist with guidance in the process if the boat is in the small boat register or has another type of registration.

Transfer of ownership and settlement

  • Transfer: When the boat is sold, we help transfer ownership to the buyer and ensure that all necessary paperwork is sent to the relevant authorities.
  • Settlement: The settlement will be handled via Skippern Yachts' client account, so that both you and the buyer can be sure that the money is transferred safely. When the sales price has been received and the boat is handed over, we deduct our fee from the sale amount, and the rest is transferred to you.

Broker's fee

We take a percentage of the sales price as a fee. This percentage will vary on domestic or international sales. The commission is calculated from the agreed sales sum. We cover costs associated with marketing as part of our delivery (no cure, no pay). If we should not be able to sell your boat, you must not pay us anything either.

Advantages of using a boat broker - in summary

  • Expertise: As boat brokers, we have in-depth knowledge of boats and current markets, which helps us reach more potential buyers and achieve a better price.
  • Time saving: The broker takes care of the process, which saves you time and effort.
  • Security: Professional brokers ensure that all legal and financial aspects are handled correctly, so that you avoid unnecessary risk.
